Test Driving Blogsy – REVISION

Major Revision of this Review

Blogsy is an awesome new app for the iPad. As I originally wrote in my first review, Blogsy is a vast improvement in blog authoring for the iPad.

BlogsyHere is my evaluation of a new version of the Blogsy editor for multi-platform blog authoring and administration. First off Blogsy has an awesome interface, the buttons are obvious and it only took a quick glance to get this app. The editor window in rich text mode is really nicely done. The default font is about perfect for the iPad. Images are a bit more tricky but with just a little practice it becomes pretty intuitive. The first thing you have to get used to is that you don’t insert the image into the paragraph like you would do with most WYSIWYG editors. Now on first glance you might think that this would be awkward but in fact it works better the way that Blogsy has implemented it. So you insert an image between the paragraphs, above the paragraph that you want it to appear in and then you select the image and align it. So far it has been flawless and what I like about this method of image handling is that you don’t have the frustration of trying to hold and drag an image into a paragraph and having the text sliding all over the place. I have often had to flip other editors… Continue reading

New test of Blogsy, text only post

OK,

Sorry to my friends on LinkedIn and Twitter who saw this post last night as I tried desperately to get the promising app Blogsy to work on my WordPress 3.3 blog. Well, nope! If you look at the example below you can see that even a text-based post does not work as advertised. Blogsy adds   or non breaking spaces between paragraphs. I have to say that is just annoying. It is bad enough that it is not handling images correctly, but text, ugh!

I’ll keep looking but for me Blogsy is a bust!!

This is a text only check.nbsp;

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using Content here, content here, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for lorem ipsum will uncover many web sites still in their infancy. Various versions have evolved over the years, sometimes by accident, sometimes on purpose (injected humour and the like).

I have often had to flip other editors into HTML mode and manually code my image position or at least have to add padding (a gutter) around the image. So A+ on images.

So now it is time to try publishing my… Continue reading

I actually read the manual for myWPEdit and I thought I would try out another of my stream of consciousness posts where I try out features. First, I love the auto-correct as you type spell correction. It works a lot like the other Apple iOS devices I know and love. They say I can use inline HTML too, so that last part should be blue. Cool, the preview says it is. Looks like in the middle of a sentence I can add an HTML tag like an h2 and style it as inline

Boom

big text!! OK, looks great in the preview window but on my blog the inline part of the H2 doesn’t seem to work, could be my blog. Nope, looks like the style was rewritten and the display:inline was stripped out, ugh!

This is a table header

So that should be a table up there and this should be a caption

OK, tables are nice, code seems in tact, kind of a pain to have to hand code a table though, it would be nice to have a table editor built in. I am afraid that a lot of my friends who are not HTML gurus will be a bit unhappy with that.

Blogging with Adobe Contribute 6.1

So here we have the first post using Adobe Contribute 6.1. And as you can see from the image on the left, Contribute does the basic things you would expect from a 3rd part blog editor. It handles images well,

Contribute does a good job With Tables And looks manageable

The issues arise around what always plagues Adobe products, price. At $199 for a full license, it cannot compete with Windows Live Writer at free, and Live Writer is more capable. Adobe would rightly argue that Contribute is not a one trick pony like Live Writer so it does not have to be the best blog editor, but if you are already using the Adobe collaboration suite, Contribute can blog too.

Since I have the Adobe suite through my job, Contribute makes a nice addition to possible tools I can use to write a blog post.

All in all, Contribute is improving definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Blogging with Adobe Contribute

It has been a while since I have tried using Adobe Contribute to add content to my blog. So here I am with version 5.1 as part of my CS 5.5 Web refresh. So far it has remembered the last time it was connected to my blog and it appears to be ready to roll.

First, here is a header 2

Now we have a block quote of some content right now.

And back to normal again. So now I am going to publish this and see how it looks.

This is the first post with a new App from MOApp myWPEdit for Mac. So I bought this because it was substantially cheaper than the other Mac 3rd party editors for WordPress and it looks like it has a full feature set.

I must say that so far, so good, at $9.99 it appears to be what was advertised and this post is cruising along so far. Setup was a breeze and I have a list of all of my past blogs on the left so I know it has connected.

Nice the photo upload and insert seems to work well too. AlturaVista Home page Adding links seems pretty straight foreword, so far so good.

Building Scalable Open Source Intranets – Part 1

The power of this system is that it keeps the simple things simple and keeps users who are not web technicians from having to edit web pages. Most folks tasked with maintaining sections of your Intranet should find updating content through this system much easier than having to edit web pages or use expensive and resource intensive CMS systems Continue reading

Evaluating Qumana Blog Editor

Part of what I do is evaluate new Web technologies and a lot of my time is spent looking at new web 2.0 technologies. One of the very cool developments in the Blog world is the development of some really first-rate 3rd party editors. I use Microsoft’s new Live Writer in the Windows world and I am in the process of looking for an equally good editor in the OS X world.

Today I am looking at the Freeware Beta offering from Qumana. Connecting Qumana was pretty straight forward and simple so it passes the ease of install threshold. Next is the UI and it too is very functional and intuitive. It is limited however, with very few options bells or whistles. To be fair though it does do the simple things simply and is a big improvement over the text editors built into Blogger, WordPress, or TypePad and that is really where the rubber meets the road.

Qumana does have a spell check built in, the ability to color, bold, italic, underline, strike through, change font family, and font size.

You can add a picture.
ChristmasHouse08Cropped2 You can align your photo left, right, center, or default.

You can add links, and it has the ability to handle multiple blogs. It also has hooks for inserting Google Adwords, Tags and html. It has a WYSIWYG and Source View for power users mode.

The bad… Continue reading
